Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to the questions we hear most often about cabinet design, installation, and working with Blue Mountain.
Cabinet Installation Questions
Can my general contractor install cabinets?
Many general contractors work with highly experienced cabinet installers or have significant installation experience themselves. Others may subcontract the work. Ask who will actually be installing your cabinetry and what experience they have with your specific cabinet type.
Are expensive cabinets worth it if they're installed poorly?
No. Even premium cabinetry can lose much of its visual appeal if the installation isn't done carefully. Quality products and quality craftsmanship work together — one without the other leaves the project short of its potential.
Why do walls and floors matter when installing cabinets?
Very few homes have perfectly level floors or perfectly straight walls. Experienced cabinet installers expect these imperfections and know how to work with them to create a seamless finished appearance. Inexperienced installers may leave visible gaps, uneven lines, or doors that won't close properly as a result.
How do I know if an installer has experience with frameless cabinetry?
Ask to see completed projects similar to yours. Experience with your specific cabinet style and construction method is often more valuable than general carpentry experience alone. Frameless cabinetry in particular requires precise alignment techniques that not all installers are familiar with.
Do I need to use Blue Mountain’s preferred installers?
No — the choice of installer is always yours. However, we have a network of vetted Blue Mountain Preferred Installers we trust with our designs. If you use another installer, we'll simply ask you to acknowledge that we've discussed the importance of installation experience and that the final appearance may depend on it.
Design Process Questions
What does the Blue Mountain design process look like?
We start with your idea — a sketch, a photo, or just a description. From there, a real Blue Mountain designer creates a free 3D design and concept budget so you can see exactly what you're getting before committing to anything. If the design and budget work for you, we schedule a jobsite measure and full design revision service — the fee for which is applied as a credit toward your cabinet purchase.
How long does a cabinet project take?
Lead times vary by cabinet line and project complexity. We'll give you a specific timeline at the start of your project. Most orders are ready for installation within a few weeks of order confirmation, and we keep you updated throughout.
Do you offer a warranty on your cabinets?
Yes. The cabinet lines we carry are backed by a lifetime warranty on construction and finish. Specific warranty terms vary by manufacturer, and we'll walk you through the details for your specific selection.
Do you charge for the design and 3D rendering?
The initial 3D design and concept budget are completely free — no commitment required. If you decide to move forward, we charge a service fee for the jobsite measure and design revisions, which is applied as a full credit toward your cabinet purchase. So when you buy from us, it's essentially free.
The Bottom Line
Choosing beautiful cabinetry is only part of creating a kitchen you'll love for years to come. Professional installation is what transforms carefully designed cabinetry into a finished kitchen that feels seamless, refined, and built specifically for your home. Whether you choose Blue Mountain Design or another company, our advice remains the same: Choose an installer with proven experience installing the type of cabinetry you've selected. It's one of the best ways to protect your investment — and one of the biggest factors in how your finished kitchen will look and function. Because in the end, homeowners rarely remember the name of who designed their kitchen or who installed their cabinets. But they will remember how their kitchen makes them feel every time they walk into it.
